Sustainability is Critical for your Business
by Peter Meisen
Sustainability is the new mantra in government, corporate boardrooms and
environmentalists. It’s a word that everyone knows but few actually
follow through on it’s potential for reducing costs and increasing

The are many excellent definitions for the word. At its most basic,
sustain means ‘being able to be maintained at a certain rate or level.’

Looking globally from the book, “Our Common Future,” Sustainable
development is development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Taking a Stand:
Sitting Too Much May Sabotage Your Health
by Susan Jacobs
While all meetings are different, one trait they share in common is that attendees often spend a lot of time seated. Dr. James Levine, a Mayo Clinic endocrinologist who has done extensive research on the dangers of inactivity, believes sitting is the new smoking.

After three decades of work funded by the National Institutes of Health, Levine has concluded that excessive sitting is responsible for many chronic health conditions, including obesity, diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease, as well as premature death.

Overall, we have become a seated society.

Entitlement — It Just Ruins Everything
by Dr. Charles DeBettignies

An “entitlement” means that I have a right to something. I should get what I’m entitled to. There isn’t anything that I need to do.

The problem here though, is that your customers don’t give you any entitlements. We have to earn it, “bring it,” make it happen every single day.

So there’s an inherent train wreck here. Your employees expect more money for the same performance (or maybe even less) – and your customers expect the opposite! (more performance for less money.)

So you’re stuck in the middle.
